Pasadena Firefighters Rescue Trapped Baby Osprey At School

Firefighters with Armiger Fire Station 30 in Pasadena faced a different sort of rescue. They assisted in saving a baby osprey.

PASADENA, MD -- Anne Arundel County firefighters were summoned to an emergency that seemed a bit fowl. A baby osprey had become tangled in netting and other littered materials and was discovered struggling in its nest near Severna Park High School. Firefighters from Armiger Fire Station 30 in Pasadena on the C-shift responded to the emergency call.

They used the bucket on Tower 30 and helped wildlife expert Mark Jewel with Owl Moon Raptor Center reach the nest high up on a utility pole. Jewel retrieved the osprey and brought it to the ground where it was safely detangled from the material. Mark and Heather Jewel tended to the baby osprey once it was safely rescued. Mark Jewel is authorized by the Maryland DNR to work with osprey, reported the Armiger Fire Station 30.

The Armiger Fire Station 30 credited 911 emergency responders for summoning the Jewels to the scene, calling them "unsung heroes."
