Pasadena History: Exploring Bodkin Point’s Past

Did you know Bodkin Point has a deep past? Here is this week's tidbit of Pasadena history as told in "The Pasadena Peninsula."

Here is your weekly dose of some Pasadena history, thanks to The Pasadena Peninsula by Isabel Shipley Cunningham.

Bodkin Point in Pasadena has a history tied back to the War of 1812.

“When the British prepared to attack Fort McHenry in September, Captain Francis Hancock and his militiamen stood ready to signal as soon as the British fleet started up the Patapsco,” Cunningham wrote. “Oral tradition tells that they were to give the alarm from Bodkin Point, using flags by day or burning haystacks by night. Watchers at Steeple House Farm above North Point then took up the signal and relayed it to Fort McHenry.”
