Senior Cats Now Available For Free From County Animal Shelter
Anne Arundel County Animal Care & Control encourages people to adopt a senior cat for free and help these felines find a furrever home.
ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD -- Shelters across the country are brimming with senior-aged pets no longer wanted by their owners or who have outlived their loved ones. In the hopes of helping local senior pets, the Anne Arundel County Animal Care & Control invites the community to open their homes and hearts to help these deserving pets live out their golden years at a furrever home for free.
The open admission shelter for Anne Arundel County residents accepts thousands of animals per year including animals found, surrendered to the shelter and animals impounded/seized for their protection or the safety of the public. In 2018, the shelter witnessed more than 800 cats adopted, more than 500 cats go to rescue partners and more than 100 cats reunited with their families, the shelter stated in a press release.
Year round, but especially during the warmer months when the shelter is inundated with kittens, the shelter has the most difficult time finding homes for senior cats; therefore, cats nine years of age or older can be adopted for free, the shelter has announced.

Senior cats often have the longest length of stay at the shelter because they are typically overlooked by shelter visitors. People adopting a senior pet are truly helping the most needy animals among shelter pets. To see available adoptable cats, visit the shelter's website at www.aacounty.org/pets.
The shelter is located at 411 Maxwell Frye Rd., Millersville. The hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, and 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
