Video Shot by Suspects Leads Police to Charge 3 Annapolis Teens in Robbery, Beating

An anonymous source gave a video of an Annapolis High School student being robbed and beaten to police. Police say suspects arrested this week shot the video, which led them to the victim in the case.

An Annapolis High School student who was robbed and beaten by three Annapolis teenagers a month ago never reported the attack that happened in the front yard of a friend’s house.

Instead, police were tipped to the incident when a video of the assault recorded by the three suspects was given to the school resource officer by an anonymous source. Police obtained the video on Feb. 28, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department, and confirmed the attack after talking to the victim.

This week, the suspects – ages 19, 18 and 15, all from Annapolis – were arrested on a range of robbery and assault charges, police said.

Investigators determined the victim was assaulted and robbed about 4 p.m. on Feb. 3 while he was visiting a friend in the 800 block of Coachway in Annapolis. The assault and robbery took place in the front yard of the residence, and the suspects recorded the incident on video.

Police believe all three suspects were involved in the robbery, and the victim was familiar with each of them. One suspect called the victim prior to the attack to determine the student’s location, and the victim provided the address of the friend’s house where he was visiting.

A short time later, a vehicle containing the suspects arrived at the residence. When the victim went outside to meet the teens, police alledge he was almost immediately assaulted by a suspect, later identified as Rodell Hall Pinckney.

Pinckney forcibly removed the victim’s shoes and jacket, threw the shoes in a wooded area and placed the jacket inside the suspect’s vehicle, according to police. Pinckney reportedly hit the victim in the head with a small wooden object, and repeatedly slapped, punched and taunted the victim as the other teens encouraged Pinckney to continue the assault.

Authorities say the alleged accomplices also taunted the victim as Pinckney kicked the victim while the victim was lying on the ground. The other teens reportedly stood over the victim, threatening him and preventing his escape.

The victim’s parents were informed of the incident during the course of the investigation. On Feb. 28, an arrest warrant was issued for Pinckney, 19, of 610 Wayward Drive in Annapolis. He was charged with robbery; conspiracy to commit robbery; second-degree assault; conspiracy to commit second-degree assault; reckless endangerment; conspiracy to commit reckless endangerment; and a weapon violation.

Pinckney remained at large until March 5, when he was arrested at the conclusion of a chase initiated by the Annapolis Police Department. Pinckney was in a stolen 2008 Acura TL when officers attempted to stop the car. The driver fled along I-97 before losing control and crashing the vehicle near Maryland Route Three.

On March 5, an arrest warrant was issued for Ryan Joseph Cahouet and he was arrested March 7. Cahouet, 18, of 113 Chesapeake Ave. in Annapolis, was charged with conspiracy to commit second-degree assault, telephone misuse and reckless endangerment.

On March 5, a third suspect in the robbery was arrested without incident by the school resource officer at South River High Student. This suspect, a 15-year-old from Annapolis, was charged with robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and theft under $1,000.

He was cited and released to a parent.
