'Grrls' Play Major Parts at UMBC Showcase

Sixth annual Grrl Parts Festival gives female characters center stage.

The Grrl Parts Play Festival at UMBC, now in its sixth season, presents new plays with women in leading roles to counterbalance the testosterone-heavy fare typical of contemporary theater.

Grrl Parts is playing in the UMBC Theatre Friday, March 4, and Saturday, March 5,  at 8 p.m. It is also showing on Sunday, March 6 at 2 p.m. General admission tickets are $10 and student or senior tickets cost $5.

This season's series of three short plays include Karen Hartman’s Snip, Timberlake Wertenbaker’s What Is the Custom of Your Grief and Ellen McLaughlin’s play Runaways. These plays display women’s  mutual and conflicting needs, across time cultures and identities. Private struggles become iconic and epic human stories as the s terrible and joyful truths in women’s lives are told.
