2 Children Killed in Rowhouse Fire in East Baltimore: Reports

The cause of the deadly fire on North Clinton Street is under investigation.

BALTIMORE, MD — Two children died and their mother was hospitalized after a rowhouse fire in east Baltimore Wednesday night where five people were inside, according to reports.

The fire broke out before 9 p.m. in the 600 block of Clinton Street, according to WJZ.

A 9-month-old boy and a 3-year-old boy were pronounced deceased at the scene, the TV station reported, and an adult, a 2-year-old and a 5-year-old escaped from the burning house.

The adult was identified by multiple media outlets as the mother of the children. She was hospitalized with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, according to Fox 45.

A cause has reportedly not yet been determined.

After the blaze, fire officials put out the call to Maryland residents to ensure they had safety measures in place.

"Baltimore City reporting two children have died in a house fire," Maryland State Fire Marshal Brian S. Geraci said in a statement after 11 p.m. "PLEASE check your smoke alarms," Geraci continued, encouraging people to have evacuation plans in place in the event of an emergency.

The Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services promoted the importance of fire sprinklers, stating that whether people buy, rent or are building a home, they should ask for sprinklers.
