Amazon recently donated $10,000 to the Y in Central Maryland to support the nonprofit’s emergency response efforts to meet the community’s needs during COVID-19. Funds will aid two critical initiatives: offering hunger relief for families and providing emergency childcare for the children of essential workers, including healthcare professionals and first responders

“Amazon is committed to helping eliminate food insecurity in our community and providing support to parents working on the front lines during this crisis,” said Harkirat Sareen, general manager of Amazon's fulfillment center in Baltimore, MD. “On behalf of our more than 7,000 employees across Maryland, Amazon is proud to support the Y in Central Maryland’s tireless efforts to help our communities’ most vulnerable families – our neighbors in need during this challenging time.”

The Y in Central Maryland has opened Y family centers and preschool centers to provide childcare for emergency personnel, caring for nearly 500 children across 15 Y sites as of mid-May. Since mid-March, the Y has distributed food to over 125,700 families and individuals.
