Bach in Baltimore Performs Beloved Bach Arias & Cantata 2 on Sunday

Our 35th Anniversary Season Continues with a program of Beloved Bach Arias and Cantata 2

Bach in Baltimore performs a program of Bach’s beloved arias topped off with Bach’s Cantata 2: Ach Gott vom Himmel sieh darein (Ah God, look down from Heaven) on Sunday, November 6 at 4 pm at the Maryland State Boychoir Center for the Arts, located at 3400 Norman Avenue, Baltimore. Maestro T. Herbert Dimmock will lead the Bach in Baltimore orchestra and featured soloists Amanda Simms, soprano; Gloria Park, mezzo-soprano; Matthew Hill, tenor; and Eliam Ramos, bass-baritone. Live and Live-Streamed tickets are available at bachinbaltimore.org.
The program includes six of the most beloved and enduring arias of J. S. Bach drawn from the entire lifelong output of the master, including “Erbarme dich,” an alto aria from St. Matthew Passion; “Komm in mein Herzenshaus,” a soprano solo from Cantata 80; “Agnus Dei,” an alto solo from the B Minor Mass; "Es reißet euch ein schrecklich Ende," a tenor solo from Cantata 90; and “Wann komst du, mein Heil,” a soprano and brass duet from Cantata 140.
In addition, the program features Bach’s soulful Cantata 2: Ach Gott vom Himmel sieh darein (Ah God, look down from Heaven). Bach himself almost never used the term “cantata” to refer to any of his own works. The sorts of compositions we call cantatas would have been referred to offhandedly by various names, such as ‘Konzert’ (concerto), ‘Stück’ (piece) or even simply ‘Musik’. Bach wrote these pieces be a complement to the spoken sermon.
Individual adult tickets ($33-35), Student tickets ($10 with Student ID), children’s tickets ($5), and live-streaming tickets (starting at $15) are available for purchase at bachinbaltimore.org, by calling 410-941-9262. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door, beginning at 3:30pm.
