BALTIMORE, MD — This weekend's Baltimore AFRAM Festival is a celebration of African-American life, music and culture, organizers say. The family-oriented event will include entertainers, children’s activities, arts, history, education, financial literacy, employment and job training, health and wellness and more. The free Baltimore AFRAM Festival is presented by Mayor Catherine E. Pugh and the City of Baltimore with the support of the advisory board and steering committee.

The festival takes place on Saturday, August 12, 2017, 10am-8pm at the Bowl at Druid Hill Park, 3001 East Drive in Baltimore, between Safety City, the basketball courts, behind Recreation and Park headquarters and the Park Pool.

Musical performers include Sony R&B recording artist London Savoy and local rapper YBS Skola.

"It's important as we continue to move forward as a city, and Baltimore is a great city, that we continue to show people and showcase our talents and our abilities as well as what our community is doing from a positive perspective. I know sometimes we're seen in a negative light, but Baltimore has a lot of good," Reginald Moore, director of the Baltimore Department of Parks and Recreation, told WBAL.

A kids' village will have free games and face paint, as well as a health pavilion for free health screenings.
