BALTIMORE, MD — A Baltimore Lyft driver was carjacked and robbed at gunpoint Wednesday before his assailants forced him into his car's trunk, according to authorities.

A Baltimore police report said an officer was called shortly after 10 p.m. to the 1200 block of North Longwood Street, where he met with the victim, identified only as a 35-year-old man.

The victim told police he was working when he drove to Brooklyn to pick up a rider. When he arrived, the driver told police that four Black males, all between 16 and 21 years old, were waiting for him. The men wore dark clothing, and three wore black face masks.

The victim drove the men to their destination, where two suspects got out of the car and pointed guns at the driver, he told police. The men told the driver to get in the backseat, police said, before stealing his iPhone 14, Apple Watch, and wallet.

After driving around for 10 minutes, police said the suspects forced the victim into the car's trunk after telling him they planned to use his car and phone to pick up more people and rob them.

As the suspects reversed out of an alley, the victim used the emergency latch to open the trunk. The victim jumped from the car, police said, before running down the street and screaming for help.

The suspects drove down North Longwood Street and turned onto the 2900 block of Winchester Street before fleeing in an unknown direction, authorities said.

The victim sustained minor injuries, including cuts to his left knee and shin area. The victim also injured his ankle when jumping out of the trunk, police said.
