Baltimore Man Arrested, Charged In Shooting Of Police Officer

BALTIMORE, MD ­— A 28-year-old Baltimore man suspected of shooting a police officer last month has been arrested and charged with attempted murder.

Antonio Janifer was taken into custody without incident in Prince George's County Monday night and was charged with attempted first and second degree murder of a police officer. Janifer was quickly identified by a police in the May 20 shooting of officer Joshua Jackson, who was shot while attempting to make a traffic stop at the intersection of Light and Pratt streets, police said.

Following the shooting, Jackson was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released.

According to police, detectives identified Janifer as a suspect in the shooting and obtained a warrant for his arrest. At 8:20 p.m. Monday, members of the warrant apprehension task force and U.S. Marshals arrested Janifer, who was transported to central booking and is now awaiting a court appearance.
