Human Trafficking Brings 8-Year Prison Sentence For Baltimore Man

Federal officials said Adolph Scott of Baltimore trafficked a woman across state lines to engage in sex for money.

BALTIMORE, MD — A Maryland man landed an eight-year federal prison sentence last week after he admitted to taking a woman across state lines to engage in sex for money, according to the Department of Homeland Security's Baltimore office.

Adolph Scott, 37, of Baltimore, was sentenced on Feb. 15 for transporting an individual to engage in prostitution and for possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, federal authorities announced Wednesday.

According to a federal investigation, from early 2020 to February 2021, Scott traveled from North Carolina to Maryland with his victim and other women, so the women could engage in commercial sex acts.

Authorities said the victim suffered from drug addiction, and Scott manipulated her by withholding drugs unless she engaged in prostitution for his benefit.

According to authorities, Scott required the victim to give all earnings to him in exchange for drugs. Investigators also discovered that Scott supplied drugs like heroin and cocaine to other addicted women who engaged in sex acts for money.

In February 2021, authorities were informed about possible human trafficking at a hotel in Elkridge. The report prompted an undercover detective to answer a commercial sex advertisement at the hotel while other undercover officers surveilled the location.

While a woman solicited the undercover detective for sex, authorities said other officers saw Scott leave the hotel room and enter the building. Officers searched him and found two cell phones, $428 in cash, and distribution amounts of heroin, cocaine, and fentanyl, according to the investigation.

Authorities said Scott admitted to distributing the controlled substances to his victim and the other women.

A later search of Scott's North Carolina storage unit by investigators found condoms, lubricant, heroin needles, and clothing and personal items belonging to Scott, his victim, and the other women, authorities said.
