Baltimore Not Great For Veterans: Survey

See how Baltimore ranks among the nation's 100 largest cities as far as places to live for veterans.

BALTIMORE, MD — Happy Veterans Day! We here at Patch hope all military vets are enjoying this day set aside to honor their service. If you're in Baltimore, there may be more to be desired, a new survey finds.

WalletHub, a personal finance website, has released its report on 2018's Best & Worst Places for Veterans to Live, ranking Austin in the top slot and Baltimore 96 out of 100.

The worst city for veterans? That dubious distinction was given to Detroit.

The report compares the 100 largest U.S. cities across 18 key metrics, ranging from share of military skill-related jobs to housing affordability to availability of VA health facilities.

Baltimore was dinged for having one of the worst qualities of life and economies for veterans, according to the rankings.

These are the top five places for veterans, according to WalletHub:

  1. Austin, Texas
  2. Scottsdale, Arizona
  3. Colorado Springs, Colorado
  4. Raleigh, N.C.
  5. Gilbert, Arizona

According to the report, the highest concentration of veterans is in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

These are the worst five cities for veterans, the survey found:

  • Detroit, Michigan
  • Newark, New Jersey
  • Memphis, Tennessee
  • Fresno, California
  • Baltimore, Maryland
