Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said that the officer, identified as Sgt. Simpson, was OK.

"I am outraged, as any resident of Baltimore should be, by this incident," Harrison said in a statement over the weekend. "We can not, and will not, allow any member of the public, or one of our officers, to be assaulted."

Gov. Larry Hogan also condemned the attack shown in the video.

"Every single day, our police officers put their lives on the line to keep our neighborhoods safe, are the first to arrive at the scene of an emergency, and are the first line of defense for the public against any threat. I am appalled and disgusted by the vile attack on a Baltimore City Police sergeant," Hogan said. "We absolutely will not tolerate assault of any kind on any member of law enforcement. We will pursue and prosecute those who assaulted this officer to the fullest extent of the law."

Said Hogan: "It is time we all stand together, and it is time city leaders and legislative leaders join our efforts to take our communities back."
