Baltimore Ravens Name New Head Coach
The coaching hire comes two weeks after the Baltimore Ravens dismissed John Harbaugh as head coach.
BALTIMORE, MD — The Baltimore Ravens will hire Jesse Minter, the current defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers, as the team's new head coach, the franchise announced on social media on Thursday.
Minter, 42, will replace John Harbaugh, who was fired earlier this month after the Ravens were one of the league’s most disappointing teams this season. They went 8-9 and missed the playoffs after entering Week 1 as a Super Bowl favorite. Harbaugh was later hired as head coach of the New York Giants.
Minter previously was a member of the Ravens' defensive staff. He will be the fourth head coach in the team's history. Besides Minter, the other coaches brought in for second interviews by the Ravens were Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver and Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady, according to an ESPN report.

In a statement, Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti said Minter was "impressive" throughout the interview process and understands the values, high expectations and history of the team.
"He is also a leader who will authentically connect with our players and inspire them to championship levels," Bisciotti said.

In a statement obtained by The Baltimore Banner, Minter said he was honored to serve as the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens.
“This is an organization whose values, culture and tradition of excellence reflect everything I believe about the game of football and how it should be played," Minter said.
Last season with the Chargers, Minter guided the NFL's fifth-ranked defense (285.2 yards per game), according to ESPN. In 2024, which was Minter's first season in Los Angeles, the Chargers led the league with the fewest points allowed (17.7 points per game).
