Baltimore Record Store Day 2018: Where To Shop In Charm City

BALTIMORE, MD – For old-school music fans – the kind of people who appreciate vinyl, tunes blaring from an old in-store stereo and spending hours browsing through racks and bins filled music gems – Saturday is for you. It's Record Store Day, a sort of unofficial holiday for those among us who appreciate not only listening to music, but the packaging it comes in, as well.

And in Baltimore, the day is celebrated by at least eight stores:

• Baby's On Fire, 1010 Morton Street; plenty of new arrivals are in for the event
• Black Mess, 3853 Falls Road
• celebrated summer records, 3616 Falls Road; food and limited releases
• Dimensions In Music, 233 Park Avenue
• El Suprimo Records, 1709 Aliceanna Street
• JOJOSOUTH Record Shop, 718 West 36th Street
• Protean Records, 836 Leadenhall Street; free Rams Head tickets will be given away
• The Sound Garden, 1616 Thames Street; limited amount of 25th anniversary giveaway posters

Record Store Day was conceived in 2007 at a gathering of independent record store owners. The very first Record Store Day was in April 2008, making this the 10th anniversary of the event.

"This is a day for the people who make up the world of the record store—the staff, the customers, and the artists—to come together and celebrate the unique culture of a record store and the special role these independently owned stores play in their communities," the Record Store Day website says. "Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day. Festivities include performances, cook-outs, body painting, meet & greets with artists, parades, DJs spinning records, and on and on."
