Baltimore Restaurant Has One Of Best Vegan Seafood Dishes In U.S.

Vegan crab cakes — seasoned and fried with Old Bay — won the hearts of those compiling the top 10 vegan seafood dishes list.

BALTIMORE — An eatery in Charm City has won over the hearts of animal advocates. In its list of the "Top 10 Vegan Seafood Dishes," the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) recognized the Land of Kush.

Located on Eutaw Street, the Land of Kush specializes in comfort food that appeals to vegetarians.

Its vegan crab cakes are made from Old Bay-seasoned seitan, which is wheat gluten often substituted for meat. The protein-rich seitan is shredded and pan-fried, then fashioned into crab cakes.

"Land of Kush's crispy crustacean-free crab cakes definitely prove that no sensitive sea animal needs to die for dinner," PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said with the release of its Top 10 Vegan Seafood Dishes list.

"All the restaurants on PETA's list are dishing up mouthwatering animal-free seafood that's sure to have diners catching — and riding — the vegan wave," Newkirk said.
