Baltimore Substitute Teacher Brought Gun To AA County School: Police

A substitute teacher from Baltimore has been charged for taking a loaded handgun to a high school in Anne Arundel County, police said.​

BALTIMORE, MD — A substitute teacher from Baltimore is accused of taking a loaded handgun to Glen Burnie High School, Anne Arundel County Police said.

A school resource officer at the school was notified about 2:15 p.m. Friday by administrators that a backpack containing a handgun was found unattended in a classroom. The backpack was taken to an administrative office and a loaded 9mm Taurus handgun was seized, the police report said.

School administrators and school resource officers identified the owner of the backpack as substitute teacher Derric Andre Simms, 45.
