Baltimore's Classic Five Golf Announces Anonymous Gift
Classic Five Golf receives 12 pieces of maintenance equipment from local donor
Baltimore Municipal Golf Corporation (BMGC), also known as Baltimore’s Classic Five, today announced it has received an anonymous donation of 12 pieces of maintenance equipment.
BMGC is the nation’s first nonprofit organization dedicated to the management and operation of municipal golf courses. To support BMGC’s efforts to serve the Baltimore-area golf community, a private area golf club has provided two Toro triplex mowers, along with 10 Toro walk-behind greens mowers.
“As a 501(C)(3) nonprofit, we rely on our community to support Classic Five golf courses in more ways than one,” said Jon Ladd, BMGC’s Executive Director. “We are thrilled to announce this gift, which will help us to continue enabling recreation for all ages at our golf courses. We welcome this type of support from private partners.”

BMGC was founded in 1985 to turn around the City’s public golf courses that were losing money and in disrepair under the leadership of the Department of Recreation and Parks. Over the years, BMGC — a first-of-its-kind, private, 501(C)(3) non-profit corporation – established a model that made it possible for the company to, among other things:
- Invest over $14.5 million in capital expenditures to the golf courses and facilities
- Create a junior golf program that hosts over 500 youth each year
- Annually have the most competitive greens fees in the Baltimore Metropolitan Area
- Provide $8.175 million to Baltimore City via the Youth Activity Fund and the Baltimore City Foundation
