Baltimore's Classic Five Golf Kicks Off 2017 Tournament Series

Classic Five's Tournament Series continues with Baltimore Match Play Championship on June 17.

BALTIMORE, Md. – Baltimore Municipal Golf Corporation (BMGC), also known as Baltimore’s Classic Five, will continue its 2017 Classic Five Golf Tournament Series on June 17 with the 2017 Baltimore Match Play Championship.

The annual Tournament Series, which runs from May through August, features four individual events. Upcoming Classic Five Tournament Series events include:

  • Baltimore Match Play Championship - June 17
    • Qualifying Round at Clifton Park Golf Course on June 17
    • Rounds 1 & 2 at Forest Park Golf Course on June 18
    • Rounds 3 & 4 at Mount Pleasant Golf Course on June 24
    • Finals at Pine Ridge Golf Course on June 25
  • Baltimore Stableford Championship - July 15 at Clifton Park Golf Course
  • Tim Sanders Championship – July 30 at Forest Park Golf Course
  • Baltimore Amateur Championship
    • Round 1 at Mount Pleasant Golf Course on August 5
    • Round 2 at Pine Ridge Golf Course on August 6

“The Tournament Series allows golfers the opportunity to participate throughout the summer in a variety of competitions that enable them to demonstrate their skills,” said Jon Ladd, BMGC’s Executive Director. “We are proud to continue these great events, which have for many become community traditions.”

The Baltimore Match Play Championship will be conducted from June 17 through June 25. A qualifier will be held at Clifton Park Golf Course on June 17, with the low 31 and defending champion moving on to the Match Play portion of the tournament. The qualifying round will determine the player’s position within the field. Rounds one and two will be played at Forest Park Golf Course on June 18. Rounds three and four will be played at Mount Pleasant Golf Course on June 24. The Finals for the Baltimore Match Play Championship will be held at Pine Ridge Golf Course on June 25.

The field for the Qualifier will be limited to 132 eligible amateur golfers. Entries for the 2017 Baltimore Match Play Championship must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, June 9 or when filled. The entry fee for the 2017 Baltimore Match Play Championship is $90 per person, which includes greens fees and carts for the entire event.

At Tournament Series individual events, beginning with the Match Play Championship on June 17, golfers are eligible to earn points that count toward determining the 2017 Classic Five Tournament Series Player of the Year. The golfer who earns the most points will be named the 2017 Classic Five Tournament Series Player of the Year. This year a Tournament Series Player of the Year will also be awarded in a Senior Division. To compete in the Senior Division, players must be at least 55 years old.
