Boy, 16, Charged With Murder In Baltimore Shopping Center Shooting

BALTIMORE, MD — A 16-year-old boy was charged with first-degree murder this week in connection with a Jan. 4 shooting near Edmonson Westside High School that left one teen dead and four others injured, according to Baltimore police.

The boy, whom police did not identify, was arrested Wednesday. He is currently being held at the city's Central Booking Intake Facility.

Police said the boy opened fire on a group of Edmonson Westside students gathered outside the Edmondson Village Shopping Center. Deanta Dorsey, 16, was killed in the shooting, while four others — two 17-year-old males and two 18-year-old males — were injured, police said.

The shooting happened just before 11:20 a.m. According to police, five teenage boys were on lunch break from school and had gathered outside Popeye's restaurant when the shooters opened fire.

The shooter fled behind the building after opening fire, police said.

A nearby officer and school police responded and provided aid to the victims, all of whom were taken to nearby hospitals with various levels of injuries, police said.

Dorsey, who was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma, died at the hospital, police said.
