Business Giving Away $100 Bills In Baltimore

An escape room company is hosting a treasure hunt for cash in three locations in downtown Charm City.

BALTIMORE, MD — Remember when the Baltimore Police Department had to remind people not to play Pokemon Go while driving? Well, things are about to get interesting again.

Breakout Games, a company that runs escape rooms around the country, is hosting a treasure hunt for $100 bills in Charm City.

Here's how it works: From 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, Breakout will release coordinates.

Coordinates will take treasure hunters to spots in three parts of the city — Canton, Fells Point and Patterson Park — according to Lesly Mitchell, assistant manager of Breakout Timonium. A $100 bill will be hidden in each of the three locations.

"You don't have to drive to each location," Mitchell said. "We encourage people to park their car and go. You can walk to it or run to it."

Those participating in the treasure hunt can receive the coordinates by text (text baltimorehunt to 31996) or by visiting Breakout Baltimore for information.

Three coordinates will be revealed every 30 minutes, and each coordinate will correspond to a $100 bill.

The treasure hunt is designed as an extension of Breakout Games, which operates a variety of themed rooms that challenge players to unlock a mystery to escape. Breakout Timonium and Breakout Columbia are putting together the game, which is called BreakoutHunt - Baltimore.

"We're bringing Breakout to the streets," Mitchell told Patch on Monday night. "We want to raise awareness and get everyone involved. It's a different, immersive experience."

Organizers encourage people to share their journeys on social media using the hashtag #breakouthunt and to play together.
