59th Anniv. of SUPER BOWL I GB Packers (NFL) Defeat KC Chiefs (AFL) 35-10, says CTMB-1.3
January 15, 2026 - The "Charm'tastic Mile" of Baltimore (CTMB-1.3) www.thecharmtasticmile.com. President & Fleet Street) that is now listed on Google search as one of the Top 10-15 Most Famous Streets in America is reporting today is the 59th Anniversary of SUPER BOWL I.
Yesterday was the 58th Anniversary (1-14-1968) of SUPER BOWL II, the Green Bay Packers defeated the Oakland Raiders 33-14. It was the second AFL - NFL World Championship Game.
On January 15, 1967 the first-ever SUPER BOWL was played at the LA Memorial Coliseum. The Vince Lombardi led Packers proved that the AFL teams weren't to the level of the NFL teams. Over 40 million viewers on CBS & NBC watched SUPER BOWL I.
Green Bay beat the Kansas City Chiefs 35-10. The Chiefs (11-2-1) beat the Buffalo Bills in the AFL Championship 31-7. The Packers (12-2) defeated the Dallas Cowboys 34-27 in the NFL Championship Game. Prior to the 1966 AFL-NFL seasons the merger was agreed and signed on June 8, 1966. The 16 NFL-teams and 10 AFL-teams would merge and form one 26-team league. That merger would give you the AFC & NFC, the current format of the NFL.
SUPER BOWL III, the Mighty Baltimore Colts lost to heavily underdog NY Jets 16-7. Some say it's the biggest upset in AFL/NFL Championship history. The win gave legitimacy to the AFL. 1970 would see the 1st-ever AFC & NFC season. The 1st AFC Championship was the Colts vs Oakland Raiders played at old Memorial Stadium. Baltimore defeated Oakland 27-17.
The 1st NFC Championship was the Dallas Cowboys vs San Francisco 49ers at Kezar Stadium (San Francisco). Big D beat the 49ers 17-10. Baltimore & Dallas would face each-other in SUPER BOWL V with the Colts beating the Cowboys 16-13. SUPER BOWL LX (60) to conclude the 2025 season will be played at Levi Stadium, home of the 49ers.
