Sheraton Inner Harbor after Renovations & New Ownership Should be Hotel Name "Charm'tastic Mile"

January 17, 2026 - The "Charm'tastic Mile" of Baltimore (CTMB-1.3) www.thecharmtasticmile.com. The chic & famed 1.3 mile corridor located in the heart of Charm City (Est.1975) that connects Dwtn-West, the Inner Harbor & Harbor East (S. Greene & W. Pratt Street to S. President & Fleet Street) that is now listed on Google search as one of the Top 10-15 Most Famous Streets in America is reporting the new potential owners of the Sheraton Inner Harbor should incorporate the Iconic 1.3 Mile Stretch of Dwtn-Charm City into its name.

We have a New Year, a new Manager for the Orioles, there will be a new head-coach for the Baltimore Ravens. This is a new era for Charm City and the brand of the city needs a jolt with creative & fresh ideas as we move-forward. The New Renaissance for Baltimore is on the cusp. Like Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti said this week after firing long-time head-coach John Harbaugh, "It was time for a change".

Back in 1985, Derrick E Vaughan the Baltimore-businessman that coined and created The "Charm'tastic Mile" was a busboy & room service waiter at the Tremont Plaza Hotel (Tugs Restaurant) on 222 St. Paul Place. The owner William Chris Smith also owned the Tremont on Pleasant Street with the New York-Style 8 East Restaurant.

Vaughan remembers the buzz to the opening of the new Sheraton Inner Harbor Hotel in 1985. "Downtown, Charles Street, the Inner Harbor were all happening places back then", says Vaughan. The old Tremont Plaza and Tremont hotel buildings are closed. New ownership (Tremont Plaza) Embassy Suites closed during COVID-19 and never reopened. The old Tremont became a Home2 Suites and closed in 2024.

When the Sheraton Inner Harbor reopens under new ownership & renovations for a fresh-look, the new name should connect to The "Charm'tastic Mile" as part of its new brand/marketing. The Hotel Brand "Charm'tastic Mile". The Hyatt Regency Magnificent Mile (Chicago), Hilton Chicago Magnificent Mile Suites are connected to the world-renowned 13-blocks of Michigan Avenue.

This coming April 25, 2026 will mark the 10th Anniversary (2016-26) of The "Charm'tastic Mile" (4-25-2016) being introduced to the City of Baltimore. It shares the same-day of introduction to the city as the majestic "Domino Sugars" (4-25-1951) neon sign, 65-years apart. 2026 will also mark the 75th Anniversary for the neon sign.

The use of the Inner Harbor or the word Harbor has run its course. There's still room for the Inner Harbor in branding, there's also room for other forms of brand/marketing for downtown and the business district.

The "Charm'tastic Mile" like The Magnificent Mile are both USPTO www.uspto.gov (R) registered trademarks. Connecting to a Famous/Iconic Street will also help in bringing new businesses to fill the over-abundance of empty retail-restaurant spaces. The Cheesecake Factory after almost 30-years will close its doors on January 24th.

The next-day on January 25th will be the launch of Charm City 50+1 (51), the 51st Anniversary of the Charm City nickname that was coined in 1975 by then Mayor William Donald Schaefer. Schaefer was Mayor of Baltimore when the Sheraton Inner Harbor opened in 1985.
