Teaching little ones to be kind, responsible, and engaged members of the community, all while having a blast! Merriweather District’s Good Kid-izen is a family-friendly, child-centered event designed to inspire kids ages 2-10 through interactive activities, storytelling, hands-on learning, and plenty of fun.
Hosted by Howard Hughes Communities and sponsored by Goldfish Swim School, each session features a signature themed presentation from a local partner, followed by hands-on crafts, interactive activities, and take-home giveaways.
This summer’s sessions include:
- June 6 – Kindness in Action: We kick off the season by celebrating empathy, inclusion, and how small actions make a big impact. Kids will explore what it means to be kind and how even the littlest gestures can change someone’s day through games, conversation, and a special Storytime with HoCo Library.
- June 20 – Water Safety Day: Make a splash safely! Join us for a morning of hands-on water play where we learn how to stay safe, confident, and cool all summer long.
- July 11 – Little Aggies: From seeds to snacks! Discover the journey of your favorite foods and meet the local farm heroes who grow the colorful fruits and veggies we love to eat.
- July 25 – Healthy Habits: Stretch, snack, and smile! Children will enjoy a stimulating, interactive lesson on movement, nutrition, mindfulness, and summer wellness. Followed by a kid-friendly yoga class with YogaSix.
- August 8 – Community Heroes: Not all superheroes wear capes, some wear helmets and badges! Get an up-close look at the big trucks and brave neighbors who keep our community safe every day.
- August 22 – Storybook Adventures: Watch your favorite tales leap off the paper through interactive play and magical storytelling that turns every reader into the main character. Storybook Maze and the HoCo Library Mobile Library will be on hand to bring the joy of reading to life.
