BALTIMORE, MD — The CEO of the University of Maryland Medical System — who has been on leave since late March — has reportedly resigned.

Robert A. Chrencik submitted his resignation letter on Friday, April 26, to the board of directors for the University of Maryland Medical System, acting CEO John W. Ashworth III told The Baltimore Sun.

The resignation came the day after the University of Maryland Medical System reportedly received a subpoena connected to a federal investigation into Mayor Catherine Pugh.

Chrencik had been on leave since Monday, March 25, after the board unanimously voted for him to step aside while an independent firm reviews the University of Maryland Medical System's board and the contractual relationships of its members.

Three board members (Mayor Catherine Pugh, John Dillon and Robert Pevenstein) resigned and four board members have taken leave (August Chiasera, Francis Kelly, James Soltesz and Walter Tilley Jr.) since mid March, according to The Baltimore Sun, which published an expose on the issuing of no-bid contracts by UMMS to companies connected to its board members.
