Chance Of Light Snow May Snarl Baltimore-Washington Area Traffic

Plan ahead to allow extra time on the Thursday morning commute due to potentially icy roads, the National Weather Service advises.

BALTIMORE, MD — There is a 60 percent chance that the Baltimore metropolitan area may see light snow showers overnight, according to the National Weather Service. The chance of snow is slightly lower in the Washington area, at 40 percent.

Officials say that accumulation would be less than an inch, falling between 7 p.m. Wednesday and 4 a.m. Thursday.

Due to the low temperatures and timing around rush hour, the National Weather Service issued a special weather statement for potentially hazardous road conditions.

"If this threat of light snow on frigid roads does materialize overnight, the Thursday morning rush hour could quickly turn icy on untreated roads," the statement said. "This could lead to hazardous traveling conditions, multiple accidents and extensive delays."

The National Weather Service advised: "If commuting Thursday morning, be aware of the possibility of travel disruptions and icy roads. Plan ahead by allowing for extra travel time, and consider using public transportation and telework options."
