Chris Rock To Talk 'The Slap' On Livestreamed Baltimore Show
Chris Rock is expected to hit back at Will Smith during a Netflix special airing live Saturday night, his first since last year's Oscars.

BALTIMORE, MD — It was the slap heard around the world, and a slap we're still hearing nearly one year later — from a live show at the famed Hippodrome.
During last year's Oscars telecast, actor Will Smith stormed the stage and slapped host Chris Rock after the comedian made a joke referencing his wife's short hair. The unprecedented incident prompted Smith to apologize and resign from the motion picture academy. The organization's board of directors also ban Smith from the Oscars and all other academy events for 10 years.
Meanwhile, Rock has remained relatively silent on the slap —until now.

On Saturday, Netflix will livestream its first live show featuring the comedian. "Selective Outrage," Rock's first stand-up special since last year's Oscars, will take place at Baltimore's Hippodrome Theatre starting at 10 p.m. ET, according to the Wall Street Journal.
While Rock has mentioned the infamous slap in other sets, he's expected to hit back in the first live show offered to Netflix's 231 million global subscribers, the Journal reported.

Not only will Rock present about an hour of stand-up, Netflix will bookend the special with star-studded commentary.
The pre-show, beginning at 9:30 p.m., will feature Paul McCartney, Jerry Seinfeld, Matthew McConaughey, Cedric the Entertainer, Ice-T and two hosts from last year’s Oscars: Wanda Sykes and Amy Schumer. After Rock's set, Dana Carvey and David Spade will host guests including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Arsenio Hall and JB Smoove.
Despite the timing of Rock's special, Robbie Praw, Netflix's vice president of stand-up and comedy formats, told the Journal it was purely a "coincidence."
"It really was a factor of when Chris felt like he was ready and when the technology was ready," Praw said. "I know you're looking for a more fun answer than that, but that's really what it came down to."
This year's Academy Awards will air a week later on March 12 at 8 p.m. ET.
