Cleaning Up City Government Included In Baltimore Policy Proposal

The proposal, to be delivered Wednesday by Baltimore City Council President Brandon Scott, will address four key areas to better Baltimore.

BALTIMORE, MD — Baltimore City Council President Brandon Scott will deliver a policy proposal Wednesday to fellow council members and other city officials. The proposal will focus on actions the council can take over the next year and a half to improve the community and be more transparent and accountable to constituents.

The proposal will happen at 10 a.m. in the Baltimore City Hall Council Chambers. The meeting is open to the public. For those who can’t attend, the meeting will be livestreamed on CharmTV or Scott’s Facebook page.

The proposal centers on four main categories: transparency and accountability ("Cleaning up city government"), public safety and economic development ("Safer, stronger communities"), youth education and opportunity ("Investing in youth, investing in our future"), and equity ("Bringing an equity framework to governance”).

“We hear over and over again that people feel disconnected from their government and don’t feel like they get the service they deserve,” Scott said in a news release. “As Council President, I want to focus on the City Council’s work over the next year and a half to deliver for Baltimore’s residents and bring greater transparency to the way we operate.”

Throughout the month of August, Scott also plans to take the proposal into Baltimore neighborhoods through community forums. The goal of these forums is to solicit feedback from residents on the City Council's priorities through the end of 2020. Dates, times, and locations will be announced Wednesday.
