Delegate Cheryl Glenn Charged In Bribery Scandal: Prosecutors
A Baltimore delegate who recently resigned has been charged in a bribery and wire fraud case, federal prosecutors said.

BALTIMORE, MD — After a Baltimore delegate resigned from the Maryland General Assembly last week, federal prosecutors announced Monday they were unsealing federal charges filed against her.
Delegate Cheryl D. Glenn has been charged with federal bribery and wire fraud, prosecutors said. Glenn, a Democrat, has been a state delegate representing Baltimore since 2007.
The allegations relate to Glenn's positions on medical cannabis and liquor licenses.

"Miss Glen allegedly solicited and received bribes related to marijuana, opioids and alcohol. These substances affect the health, safety and well-being of thousands of Marylanders every day," U.S. Attorney Robert K. Hur said.
Glenn is accused of soliciting and accepting bribes from March 2018 to February 2019 and taking steps to conceal them. She is accused of taking $33,750 for voting to increase the number of medical marijuana grower and processing licenses in Maryland and liquor licenses in Baltimore, Hur said.

"These decisions cannot be made on who is the highest bidder," Hur said, adding rulings made about substances should be made based on careful analysis and are "matters of life and death."
Glenn resigned Dec. 18 citing "personal reasons," according to the Baltimore Sun.
She will be arraigned at 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 22, according to Hur, who said she is expected before then to surrender to U.S. Marshals.
The number of prosecutors dedicated to investigating public corruption has increased in his office, Hur said, stating that public corruption allegations are taken "very seriously."
