BALTIMORE, MD — The family of a 16-year-old boy killed last month near a Baltimore shopping center was targeted in a separate shooting at their home Saturday morning, according to multiple reports citing the family's attorney.

Deanta Dorsey, 16, was killed in a Jan. 4 shooting near Edmonson Westside High School, according to Baltimore police. Four other teens were also injured in the shooting.

Thiru Vignarajah, the attorney for Dorsey's family, said during a news conference livestreamed by CBS Baltimore that four or five gunshots were fired into the home after midnight.

"This was not, you know, shooting into the sky to send a warning," Vignarajah said. "These were bullets fired into the house, one through the window, and now they're hitting the front door."

According to CBS Baltimore, 11 people, including four children, were inside the home at the time of the shooting.

No one was hurt, according to a Baltimore Banner report. The family has been placed under police protection, Vignarajah said.

A 16-year-old boy was charged with first-degree murder last week in connection with Dorsey's death. Police are still searching for additional suspects.

The Baltimore State's Attorney's Office responded Monday to the shooting and, in a statement provided to the Banner, faulted Vignarajah after he and Dorsey's family held a news conference last week while police searched for a second suspect.

"We are quite concerned at the lack of care the family's attorney has shown for their safety. At the press conference on Friday, he stated there remained a suspect at-large but still had the family on display, demonstrating little to no concern for their safety," spokesman James Bentley wrote in an email to the Banner.

Police said the boy opened fire on a group of Edmonson Westside students outside the Edmondson Village Shopping Center. Dorsey was killed, while four others — two 17-year-old males and two 18-year-old males — were injured, police said.

The shooting happened just before 11:20 a.m. According to police, five teenage boys were on lunch break from school and had gathered outside Popeye's restaurant when the shooters opened fire.

The shooters fled behind the building after opening fire, police said.

A nearby officer and school police responded and provided aid to the victims, all of whom were taken to nearby hospitals with various levels of injuries, police said.

Dorsey, who was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma, died at the hospital, police said.
