Floor Collapses At East Baltimore Store, Police Investigating

Police said while investigating a burglary, officers found part of the floor collapsed at a Baltimore business.

BALTIMORE, MD — Part of the floor collapsed at an east Baltimore business where police officers were called to investigate a burglary.

The Baltimore Police Department was called to the store at 10:30 a.m. to investigate a possible burglary and found part of the floor had collapsed during the investigation.

Out an abundance of caution, authorities said they called the fire department to ensure the building was safe.

"A search of the building has been conducted, and we have been unable to locate anyone inside," police said in a statement at 1:40 p.m. Thursday.

The investigation into the burglary is ongoing.

PREVIOUS REPORT — A man is trapped in an east Baltimore store where the floor has collapsed, according to authorities. Crews are working to rescue him, the Baltimore Fire Department reported after noon Thursday.

As the rescue is in progress at the store in the 1800 block of North Gay Street, officials said the man's condition was not immediately available.
