Former Baltimore Mayor Files as Write-In Candidate for Mayoral Race

Baltimore's former mayor has launched a write-in campaign to get her seat back in the November 2016 election.

BALTIMORE, MD — After losing the democratic primary, former Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon announced she will run as a write-in candidate four weeks before the general election.

"This is not going to be the traditional campaign and election for Sheila Dixon," said the former mayor at a press conference this week.

Certainly, Dixon is not the traditional candidate. She resigned in 2010 after being charged with allegedly accepting and not disclosing gifts from developers. She had been in office since 2007.

This April, she ran again, but Dixon lost to Senator Catherine Pugh for the Democratic nomination by about 2,000 votes. Her supporters urged her to continue the campaign.

"We want somebody that's going to jump right in to Baltimore on their very first day and say, 'Let's do this,'" Dixon supporter Lisa Mills told Capital News Service.

"Write in Sheila Dixon," Mills said. "Baltimore wants their mayor back."
