GBMC Dedicates Physicians Pavilion North In Memorial
GBMC DEDICATES PHYSICIANS PAVILION NORTH IN MEMORY OF William E. Kahlert
GBMC HealthCare Inc. announced February 19th that Physicians Pavilion North, located on GBMC’s Towson campus, has been renamed the William E. Kahlert Physicians Pavilion North. The building was officially named for William Kahlert during a dedication ceremony at the hospital. Bill Kahlert, for whom the building was named, and his wife Yvonne, were long-time GBMC supporters.
John Chessare, M.D., President and CEO of GBMC HealthCare, Inc., presented the permanent plaque display in the William E. Kahlert Physicians Pavilion North. The display features an image of Mr. Kahlert, his biography and the story of the Kahlert family’s connection to GBMC along with the debut of the new signage located on the outside of the building.
In addition to being the home to more than 10 medical practices, which includes the expanded Chesapeake Urology, and GBMC’s 61,000 square feet primary care office, Family Care Associates, the newly named William E. Kahlert Physicians Pavilion North is also home to the popular Comprehensive Obesity Management Program (COMP), and the well-known Cochlear Implant Center and The Cleft Palate Center.

“My family will forever be grateful to GBMC and all of their doctors and staff who took care of both my mother and father,” explained Greg Kahlert. “I am proud that through the creation of our foundation, the Kahlert Foundation, we are able to give back to the hospital that gave our family years of continued support.”
For the past 17 years, the Kahlert family - including Bill and Yvonne, Greg, Roberta, and their children, Heather and Scott, - have all been devoted supporters of GBMC and have given more than $13 million to the hospital. In 2014, the Chapel located in the hospital was named the Yvonne Kahlert Chapel, to celebrate and honor her legacy.

“The Kahlert Family has become part of the GBMC family and we are honored to help commemorate Bill’s life through this dedication,” said Dr. John Chessare, President and CEO of GBMC HealthCare. “GBMC is extremely grateful for the continued support of the Kahlert Foundation and applaud Bill and Yvonne’s family for their philanthropic efforts.”
Previous gifts by the Kahlert Foundation resulted in the dedication and naming of the Yvonne Kahlert Chapel and the addition of a second chaplain. In addition, Bill Kahlert funded two initiatives put in place to support urological and oncology research through the two doctors who were instrumental in his care - Ronald F. Tutrone, M.D. and Paul Celano, M.D. Dr. Ronald Tutrone, GBMC’s Chief of the Division of Urology, currently holds The William E. Kahlert GBMC Chair in Urological Research, and Dr. Paul Celano directs the William E. Kahlert Fund for Research and Discovery to support oncology research, an initiative Bill Kahlert established and the Kahlert Foundation continues to support.
