Governor-General of Antigua and Barbuda Speaking In Baltimore

Dr. Sir Rodney Williams will speak about the impact of Hurricane Irma on Antigua, Barbuda.

BALTIMORE, MD - From the University of Maryland - Baltimore: Dr. Sir Rodney Williams, the Governor-General of Antigua and Barbuda, will speak at the invitation of the Maryland Secretary of State at a reception hosted by the University of Maryland, Baltimore. The two-island nation suffered an estimated $300 in damage when it was hit directly by Hurricane Irma earlier this month. The damage was greatest on Barbuda where 95% of structures were destroyed. All residents were evacuated, and for the first time in 300 years, no one is currently living there.

Williams is the fourth Governor-General of Antigua and Barbuda, having served earlier as a cabinet minister and member of parliament. In that post he serves as the viceregal representative of Queen Elizabeth II. The position was created in 1981 when Antigua and Barbuda was granted independence from the United Kingdom.
