Hanover Street Bridge Closure Postponed

The Hanover Street bridge will soon offer an "improved riding surface," the Baltimore City Department of Transportation advised.

BALTIMORE, MD — The Hanover Street bridge will close for several days, but not this week. The closure was slated for this weekend but has been postponed due to the forecast.

The National Weather Service is calling for a more than 50 percent chance of rain on Saturday and Sunday.

The closure will allow for repaving of the road, which is known for its abundance of potholes and other tire-flattening hazards.

"During the closure, structure adjustments will be made and the bridge will be resurfaced in order to provide an improved riding surface," the Baltimore City Department of Transportation said in an advisory about the project.

Detour signs will be posted, and drivers are encouraged to take alternate routes during the closure such as Russell Street/Interstate 295.

The Hanover Street bridge was slated to be closed between Waterview Avenue and Cromwell Street, officials advised, from 8 p.m. on Friday, July 20, to 5 a.m. on Monday, July 23.

The work has been postponed, and a new date has not yet been set.
