Horse Named Slurpee Joins Baltimore Police, Thanks To 7-Eleven
This is the second horse that 7-Eleven has gifted to the Baltimore Police Department.

BALTIMORE, MD - The Baltimore Police Department welcomed its newest addition on Wednesday: a horse named Slurpee.
The draft horse was donated by 7-Eleven, the second horse the franchise has gifted to the department. The first horse was also named Slurpee, and he retired after 10 years of service, at the age of 17.
"7-Eleven is honored to donate another Slurpee to protect and serve the people of Baltimore City," Mike Kropkowski said on behalf of 7-Eleven.

The community celebrated the new Slurpee's arrival at the 7-Eleven at 55 Market Place in Baltimore Wednesday morning.
Before becoming an official member of the Baltimore Police Department's mounted unit, Slurpee was trained for four months.

Now he will become part of one of the oldest mounted police units in the country, founded in 1888.
"Your mounted unit takes pride...in this assignment to engage the citizens of Baltimore and to effect change for the positive," Sgt. Russ Robar said at Wednesday's press conference. He explained that being with a horse on patrol invites the community to engage with officers, whether it is to come pet the horse or have a conversation about it.
Police thanked Last Chance Ranch, which picked Slurpee out during a horse sale and identified him as having the potential to be a future member of the Baltimore Police Department.
As well as donating the horse to the police department, 7-Eleven announced it was giving $6,000 in grants to the Baltimore Community Foundation, for programs through the police department.
Mayor Catherine Pugh thanked 7-Eleven for its contribution and noted that of its 78 locations in Baltimore, 91 percent of the 7-Elevens are owned and operated by small business owners. Said Pugh: "This is what Baltimore is all about."
