I-83 Reopens At Northern Parkway After Officer Hit: Report

A crash closed Interstate 83 north near Northern Parkway Monday morning.

BALTIMORE, MD — A crash that reportedly involved an off-duty police officer temporarily shut down Interstate 83 north Monday morning in the area of Northern Parkway. All lanes on I-83 had reopened after 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 15, the Baltimore City Department of Transportation reported.

A two-vehicle crash prompted the closure before 8 a.m., according to officials.

During the shutdown, traffic on I-83 north was detoured onto Coldspring Lane, Fox 45 reported.

What prompted the closure was a crash involving an off-duty police officer, who was hit helping other drivers involved in a separate crash, ABC 2 News reported.

The officer was reportedly taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center for injuries that were believed to be non-life-threatening.

She was in fair condition with an injury to her knee, Detective Chakia "Niki" Fennoy reported.
