Joe Flacco On Move From Starting Quarterback: 'Disappointed'

The starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Bucs will be Lamar Jackson, the Ravens announced.

OWINGS MILLS, MD — Lamar Jackson will be the starting quarterback this weekend for the Baltimore Ravens. Head coach John Harbaugh made the announcement on Wednesday, Dec. 12.

“Every decision is based on what makes us the strongest possible team we can be," Harbaugh said at a press conference on Wednesday, Dec. 12. "I want to win the game. That's what we're interested in," Harbaugh added.

The Ravens are 7-6 and could make it to the playoffs.

Joe Flacco, who will be the backup quarterback, said he was "disappointed that I can't be part of this team in the same capacity that I have been for a long time but [you've] always got to be ready."

Added Flacco: "Anything can happen in this league very quickly."

Flacco was complimentary to Jackson, a first-round pick for the Ravens. The 21-year-old rookie out of Louisville "has done a great job," he said.

Due to a hip injury, Flacco has been on the sidelines for the past several weeks.

Jackson said he was concentrating on the task at hand, which was "trying to get ready" for the upcoming game. "I know I have to focus," Jackson said, as reported by the BaltimoreRavens.com.

The Bucs, 5-8, are keeping an eye on Baltimore. Tampa's defensive coordinator Mark Duffner said the Buccaneers have a "two-headed dragon here we're trying to slay," since Jackson may start and Flacco could step in as well.

The Ravens play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16, at M&T Bank Stadium.
