4 Baltimore City Schools Closed On Wednesday

Students have the day off at four Baltimore City Public Schools on Wednesday, Jan. 3. Staff must still report for duty.

BALTIMORE, MD — Four schools in Baltimore City are closed due to facilities issues on Wednesday, Jan. 3, according to school officials. Baltimore City Public Schools officials said that heating and water issues were concerns.

The National Weather Service was forecasting a high in the low 30s on Wednesday.

Due to cold temperatures, Baltimore's health commissioner has issued a code blue declaration through Saturday, Jan. 6.

These schools will be closed for students on Wednesday, Jan. 3, school officials said:

  • Calverton Elementary/Middle School
  • Elementary/Middle Alternative Program
  • KIPP Harmony Academy
  • Lakeland Elementary/Middle School (also dismissed early Tuesday for heating issues)

While students have the day off on Wednesday at the four impacted schools, staff should report to the professional development center at 2500 East Northern Parkway, according to Baltimore City Public Schools.

Elsewhere in the state, Allegany and Garrett counties were opening their schools two hours late on Wednesday, Jan. 3. Schools in Garrett County were also closed on Tuesday, Jan. 2, due to inclement weather.
