Nearly 5.4K Without Power As Maryland Outages Linger
A bulk of the outages following severe weather Monday were still being reported in hard-hit Carroll and Baltimore counties, officials said.

BALTIMORE, MD — Nearly 5,400 homes and businesses remained without power Thursday, three days after severe weather tore through parts of Maryland, downing power lines, damaging trees, and leaving numerous roads closed.
At the height of Monday's storms, power was knocked out to 120,000 homes and businesses, Baltimore Gas and Electric Company CEO Carim Khouzami said during a Tuesday news conference. About 56,000 outages were in hard-hit Carroll County.
By Thursday morning, 5,381 BGE customers remained without power. A count shortly after 11 a.m. showed 2,693 were affected in Carroll County, 1,260 in Baltimore County, 673 in Harford County, 493 in Baltimore City, and 135 in Howard County.

As of 9 p.m. Wednesday, BGE crews along with 1,500 mutual assistance crews had restored more than 97 percent of reported outages since the peak of Monday's storms, BGE said in an update posted to the company's website.
The remaining outages, the company said, require more extensive repairs due to "complex and intricate damage."

Officials said some current outages on BGE's outage map are due to severe weather Wednesday and other issues.
Maryland was among several states battered by severe weather Monday. Nationwide, at least two people died, thousands of U.S. flights were canceled or delayed, and more than 1.1 million homes and businesses lost power Monday as severe storms, hail and lightning moved along the East Coast.
In Carroll County, severe weather toppled more than 30 utility poles along Maryland Route 140 in Westminster. Maryland State Police rescued 33 adults and 14 children after nearly three dozen cars were trapped among the fallen power lines, according to Gov. Wes Moore's office.
BGE officials said crews were installing new poles along Route 140 Wednesday morning into Thursday. Affected customers can visit BGE’s Mobile Operations Command Center at Townmall of Westminster from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday if they have questions about the extent of reconstruction along Route 140, officials said.
