BALTIMORE, MD — Sports commentators recently ranked M&T Bank Stadium, home of the Baltimore Ravens, in the middle of the pack among NFL fields. For The Win, a USA Today publication, released the rankings earlier this month.

M&T Bank Stadium placed 16th out of the league's 30 stadiums. The NFL has 32 teams, but New York City and Los Angeles each have one stadium for the two squads in their cities.

"There’s something so quintessentially Baltimore about this stadium," analyst Chris Korman said in the Aug. 6 ranking. "Situated right near the much-lauded Oriole Park at Camden Yards, this football stadium is …. Well, it’s just a football stadium."

Rankers appreciated the atmosphere, food, views and parking at the Ravens' home field. The analysts said the stadium lacked luster, however.

"Baltimore is a place where our idea of a gourmet meal is some newspapers slapped on a table with a pile of crabs you’ve gotta pick yourself in the middle," Korman said. "We make our own good time, we don’t need the stadium to do it for us."

For The Win rated FedEx Field, home of the Washington Commanders, as the worst stadium in the NFL. The Green Bay Packers claimed the top spot with their Lambeau Field. The full rankings are posted here.

M&T Bank Stadium opened in 1998 as Ravens Stadium at Camden Yards. The $220 million field was known as PSINet Stadium from 1999 to 2001 and Ravens Stadium in 2002.

M&T Bank won the naming rights in 2003. The 71,000-seat venue has been called M&T Bank Stadium ever since.

The Ravens have one more home preseason game against the Washington Commanders on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Baltimore will head to New York for its season opener on Sept. 11 to face the Jets at 1 p.m. Former Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco could start the game for the Jets, as their first-string signal caller is hurt.

The Ravens are familiar with injuries, which derailed their 2021 season. Baltimore stumbled to an 8-9 record and a last-place finish.

Quarterback Lamar Jackson missed five games last year with injuries and illness. The former MVP is entering the final year of his rookie contract.

The fifth-year quarterback is currently negotiating an extension with the Ravens. If Baltimore doesn't finish the deal by week one, Jackson said he plans to pause negotiations until the offseason.
