Columbia 'Hamburglar' Arrested, Police Say

Police said the woman who climbed into a Columbia McDonald's drive-through took cash and Happy Meal toys.

COLUMBIA, MD — The woman who climbed into the drive-through window at a Columbia McDonald's and helped herself to refreshments and cash has been arrested, according to police. Tips flowed in after police released video from the Nov. 5 burglary that went viral and led to the suspect's nickname, "The Hamburglar," police said.

Jessica Marie Cross, 27 of Springdale, learned she was wanted and turned herself in on Thursday morning, police said.

She is facing charges of burglary and theft related to the break-in at the McDonald's in the 8300 block of Benson Drive around 1 a.m. on Nov. 5.

An employee arrived and found the cash register tampered with, the office door open and $1,400 missing, police said.

Surveillance video showed the suspect trying to disable the surveillance system, wipe her fingerprints and clean the cash drawers to eliminate evidence, officials said.

Multiple tips led to the identification of Cross as the suspect, according to police, who said she also owns a white Hyundai Sonata. Authorities are working to determine who may be eligible for the $500 reward.
