BALTIMORE, MD - Marylanders turned their heads - outfitted with special glasses and in some cases, cereal boxes - to view a partial eclipse Monday afternoon. About 80 percent of the sun was covered before 3 p.m.
The total eclipse viewing corridor stretched across 14 states, according to NASA. The first sighting in the U.S. was Lincoln Beach, Oregon, at 12:05 p.m. EST, and the last was in Charleston, South Carolina, at 4:05 p.m.
Thousands of people turned out for the event at the Maryland Science Center, which hosted groups of 300 people at a time for educational viewing on the roof.
