Spring Fever Concert & BachFest Gala

(Baltimore)—Bach in Baltimore announced today its Spring Fever Concert performance on March 4, 2018 at 4 p.m. at the Church of the Redeemer located at 5603 N. Charles Street in Baltimore. The 8^th Annual BachFest Gala & Silent Auction will immediately follow the concert at 6 p.m. at the same location. The BachFest Gala Event celebrates Bach in Baltimore’s 30 years of outstanding performances and programs while raising critical funding to support the Bach Concert Series, arts education programs, and outreach initiatives available throughout the year.

The Spring Fever Concert features Bach’s festive Cantata 149: Man singet mit Freuden vom Sieg (There are joyful songs of victory). Composed in 1728/29 for the Feast of Saint Michael, this bright and joyful piece highlights trumpets and timpani setting the stage for a polyphonic rallying cry triumphing good over evil. The second work of the afternoon is Bach’s exhilarating Orchestral Suite, No. 3 in D major. In addition to the powerful fanfares in the trumpets, this suite is beloved for the famous slow movement nicknamed “Air on a G String.” Bach in Baltimore is very pleased to welcome soprano Stephanie Kruskol Batchelder, alto Claire Galloway Weber, and tenor Michael Dodge as vocal soloists and Baltimore City College High School as the Student Voice Exchange guest choir.

Immediately following the concert, the BachFest Gala & Silent Auction will commence. Drinks and hors d’oeuvres will be served throughout the evening as the Silent Auction progresses, while music and entertainment will be provided by the talented musicians of Bach in Baltimore.

Funds raised by the BachFest Silent Auction will bring the transformative magic of music to life for our regions’ audiences who come out to our monthly concerts and to audiences that we bring music to—Bach in Baltimore visits 7-8 area nursing homes and retirement communities each season to share the beauty of Baroque music with residents who are unable to travel to see us perform. Funding raised will also help Bach in Baltimore continue to provide an exceptional artistic home for our many musicians, soloists, and choir members. Additionally, it will help to grow our Student Exchange program, which is now one of the largest music education programs in Maryland, that provides an instructive experience for guest student choirs while offering a performance opportunity at our cantata concerts.

Admission to the Spring Fever Concert is $20 in advance or $22 at the door and admission to the BachFest Gala & Silent Auction is $25. Tickets are required for both events. Individual tickets are also available at the door 30 minutes prior to a performance.
