Stocks in the Future to Host 4th Annual March Market Madness
Fundraiser will directly benefit SIF students as they learn essential personal finance and investing skills
BALTIMORE – Stocks in the Future (SIF), a nonprofit organization that teaches at-risk middle school students financial literacy, announced today that it will host its 4th Annual March Market Madness event on March 21, 2018 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. in the beautiful Glass Pavilion at Johns Hopkins University’s Levering Hall, overlooking the campus grounds.
The event includes hors d’oeuvres, wine and great networking to directly benefit SIF students as they gain a solid academic foundation and learn essential personal finance and investing skills. Now in its 4th year, March Market Madness is SIF’s hallmark special event and a fun basketball/Wall Street mash-up!

- Exciting Speakers – SIF Students, Alumni, Teachers, and Principals
- 50/50 Contest – Guess the S&P Closing Bell Number
- Free Throw Contest – For Stephen Curry Types
- Cornhole Contest – For Dwight Howard (Brick-Thrower) Types
- Auctions – Silent & Live
Proceeds will directly benefit the program that currently serves more than 900 students at 18 schools in Baltimore City and Baltimore County. The 3rd March Market Madness in 2017 raised more than $36,000.
“We are looking forward to hosting an extraordinary networking opportunity for the business community that will help support Stocks in the Future and the hundreds of youths that participate and benefit from our program,” said Rebecca Lange-Thernes, the Executive Director of SIF. “SIF teaches students in under-served areas financial basics along with concepts on investing to help provide them with the financial foundation to impact their future.”

About SIF
SIF’s mission is to mission is to develop highly-motivated middle school students who are eager to learn and dedicated to attending class through the use of incentives coupled with a financial literacy curriculum focused on investing that reinforces Math, Language Arts and Social Studies.
Over its course, SIF has graduated more than 4,200 students from over 50 different middle schools. A formal program evaluation conducted by Baltimore Education Research Consortium (BERC) found that 8th grade SIF students’ reading comprehension and math scores grew by 10% and 15% respectively among other significant results of participation with SIF’s program.
