The school stopped face-to-face instruction March 11 and closed dorms March 13.

While the campus remains open and employees are to report, classes will be held electronically until April 13 for graduate students and until April 14 for undergraduates.

"We continue to take every precaution to try to keep members of our community healthy—and to engage in social distancing to try to protect the lives of the most vulnerable in our communities," Linnane said. "During this global health crisis, Loyola leadership will continue to work with local leaders and city and state officials, while closely monitoring the guidance from the CDC, as we take steps to protect and promote the health of our community."

Maryland health officials reported there were 31 people who tested positive for the new coronavirus in the state as of Sunday morning. The first three people who were confirmed to have the illness in the state have recovered, officials reported Friday.

More than 3,700 people in the United States have tested positive for the illness, and 69 people in the country have died as of Monday morning, according to Johns Hopkins data.
