Top Children’s Hospitals In Maryland: U.S. News & World Report

BALTIMORE, MD — Two children’s hospitals in Maryland are among the best in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report’s annual rankings.

The best children’s hospitals for 2019-20 rankings released on Tuesday feature the 50 best hospitals in 10 pediatric specialties and 10 hospitals that landed on U.S. News’ honor roll. The hospitals on the honor roll “deliver exceptionally high-quality care across multiple specialties.”

In Maryland, one hospital made the top 10 honor roll: Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore, which is ranked in 10 pediatric specialties. And one other hospital was ranked among the top 50 in one pediatric specialty. The University of Maryland Children's Hospital, Baltimore, was ranked No. 32 in Cardiology and Heart Surgery.

The Maryland hospitals ranked for pediatric specialties are:

Cancer: Johns Hopkins Children's Center, No. 5

Cardiology and Heart Surgery: Johns Hopkins Children's Center, No. 25; University of Maryland Children's Hospital, Baltimore, No. 32.

Diabetes & Endocrinology: Johns Hopkins Children's Center, No. 33

Gastroenterology & Gastrointestinal Surgery: Johns Hopkins Children's Center, No. 11

Neonatology: Johns Hopkins Children's Center, No. 12

Nephrology: Johns Hopkins Children's Center, No. 9

Neurology & Neurosurgery: Johns Hopkins Children's Center, No. 8

Orthopedics: Johns Hopkins Children's Center, No. 19

Pulmonology & Lung Surgery: Johns Hopkins Children's Center, No. 11

Urology: Johns Hopkins Children's Center, No. 8

2. Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center
3. Children's Hospital of Philadelphia
4. Texas Children's Hospital, Houston
5. Children's National Medical Center, Washington, D.C.
6. Children's Hospital Los Angeles
7. Nationwide Children's Hospital, Columbus, Ohio
8. Johns Hopkins Children's Center, Baltimore
9. Children's Hospital Colorado, Aurora
10. Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago

U.S. News says its methodology in tabulating the rankings takes into account measures like patient outcome, including mortality and infection rates, and also available clinical resources and compliance with best practices. (You can read more about the methodology here.)
