ULI Baltimore Women’s Leadership Initiative Hosts Successful Program for Female Students

Program focused on careers in Design, Construction and Real Estate

On Thursday, June 8, Urban Land Institute (ULI) Baltimore Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) hosted “Focus on the Female Perspective: Support Baltimore Women in Design, Construction and Real Estate Education.” This interactive, behind-the-scenes tour and day-long event helped bring together students from area colleges enrolled in construction-related programs and professional women in their field. The program was held in collaboration with the CCBC Interior Design, CAD & Construction Management Programs.

Forty-two students and mentors representing seven colleges, including Community College of Baltimore County, Morgan State University, University of Baltimore, University of Virginia, Johns Hopkins University, American University, and University of Maryland participated in the program.

Students toured two of the most prestigious new developments in town. At Harbor Point, the city’s largest downtown waterfront site currently under development, they heard from a team from Beatty Development, which included Cathie Bryant, Vice President - Asset Management; Bob Gentry, CFO; and Jonathan Flesher, Sr. Development Director.

The day concluded with a group discussion and networking with representatives from various real estate backgrounds.

The Baltimore District Council of ULI was awarded the 2016 WLI Grant from the ULI National Council for Focus on the Female Perspective at the ULI Fall Meeting in November. The grant is awarded annually to innovative programs that increase the visibility and number of women leaders in the real estate and land use fields.
