Union Craft Brewing To Expand In Hampden Area
As a Baltimore brewery expands into north Baltimore, so does a regional climbing powerhouse.

BALTIMORE, MD — Baltimore's brewing scene is growing, and so is one of its mainstays.
Union Craft Brewing, which turns five this summer, is expanding and moving its headquarters from Woodberry to Medfield near Hampden.
The company announced the change on its website recently, accompanied by a video explaining "The Big Move."

To meet its need for more space, the brewery will open Union Collective in 2018, a complex that will include eight other businesses. The first new tenant has signed on already: Earth Treks.
Construction on Union Collective will begin July 1. The goal is to turn 138,000 square feet of warehouse space currently located at 1700 West 41st Street into a hub for community-centered businesses.

“Our goal in developing Union Collective is to do our part to make our city a better place to live, work, and play in. A key aspect of that mission is to retain existing growing businesses already in Baltimore, as well as attract new ones to move to the city for future growth,” Union Craft Brewing co-founder Adam Benesch said in a statement. “Not only will this facility foster community, which is also a part of our mission, it will offer something that doesn’t exist anywhere else in Baltimore City. Earth Treks is a leader in their industry for many reasons, and we’re excited to see them open in this space.”
Earth Treks plans to open a 20,000-square-foot gym, half of which will be focused on "bouldering," or climbing without ropes, at Union Collective.
The facility will be the first in Baltimore for Earth Treks — which has locations in Columbia, Timonium, Rockville and Crystal City, Virginia, and has plans to expand into Colorado.
In addition to the boulder terrain, Earth Treks in Hampden will feature climbing walls, fitness training areas, locker rooms, a gear shop and yoga studio.
“Earth Treks has served Baltimore-area climbers since 1990, and we are thrilled that at long last we’ll be opening our first gym in the city," Earth Treks founder/CEO Chris Warner said in a statement. “There are many synergies between the climbing community and craft beer community, which made this development and partnership the perfect fit for us. We’re excited to call Hampden home, and look forward to being part of its vibrant community.”
Union Collective will be located at 1700 West 41st Street in Baltimore.
